Katie Peel
Administrative Coordinator & Graduate Practicum Student

Katie (she/her) is a graduate practicum student pursuing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at NC State University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (2005) and a Master of Arts in International Development (2011) with
a focus on global health. After nearly two decades working in international public health to support underserved and under-resourced populations across Africa, she is pivoting
from a macro- level global health setting to a local, individual-level space by committing to a path towards becoming a mental health counselor.
Through her lived experiences as a safe space for friends and family who have navigated perinatal loss and birth trauma, along with her doula training and work in international reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health programming, she is deeply passionate about supporting physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being during these critical life chapters. Katie is dedicated to supporting clients through a holistic approach, walking alongside them through an individualized continuum of healing.
Her orientation draws upon Psychoanalytic, Internal Family Systems, Attachment-based and Somatic frameworks to guide her counseling practice. It is this blend of insight-oriented and embodied modalities that she believes allows clients to deepen their understanding of themselves while cultivating the emotional and relational capacities needed to move toward meaningful, lasting change.
Katie’s professional background has nurtured an enhanced sensitivity to cultural differences, strengthened her ability to support individuals and communities facing systemic inequities, and reinforced her commitment to prioritizing the mental health needs of those most vulnerable. Her warm and reflective presence helps clients feel seen and supported as they face challenges and develop a more empowered sense of self.
