What to Expect
Internship is a rite of passage of all helping professions. Our interns are graduate students enrolled in accredited programs including Counseling and Social Work in the Triangle area who are finishing, or have finished, their required coursework from their graduate programs. They are now completing their clinical work hours at Waypoint in order to pursue licensure in the field of mental health.
While the graduate student counselor interns provides your therapy services, the person responsible for your care, as well as guiding and directing your treatment, is a fully licensed supervisor with expertise in counseling, including perinatal and postpartum mental health. Graduate students meet weekly with their supervisor for in-depth discussion of treatment progress. They are also engaged in ongoing learning about perinatal and postpartum issues as well as institutional and societal influences, with an emphasis on effective treatment and resources for women.

2026 Session Fees
Sessions with graduate students are not billable to insurance and are $35 per session - a discounted private pay rate comparable to that of a typical insurance co-pay.

100% of therapy session fees are used towards supporting our clinical internship program and the development of counselors in training. This covers the costs of supervision, consultations, and training that supports their clinical practice and education.
