Frequently Asked Questions

How long are the sessions?

Therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. Medication evaluation appointments run 15 to 45 minutes depending on your needs. Ask your provider what to expect at your first visit.

How does billing work?

You'll enter your credit card into our secure client portal when scheduling. We submit your insurance claim the day after your session. Once your insurance processes the claim and determines your copay or deductible, your card on file is charged, typically within a few days. For billing questions, contact billing@waypointcounselingnc.com.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Contact your provider directly to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations within 48 hours of your session incur an $80 fee. The fee is waived for inclement weather.

What if I have an urgent issue?

Waypoint is a private practice. Providers aim to respond to messages within 24 hours but are not always immediately available after hours or on weekends. For urgent needs contact:

Can I text my provider?

Use secure messaging through the client portal rather than texting directly. This keeps your information private and supports healthy boundaries in the provider-client relationship.

What if I need a refill of my medication?

Submit refill requests at least three business days in advance, directly to your prescriber. Your provider works to ensure you have enough medication between sessions, but last-minute requests may not be accommodated.

Do you only see mothers?

No. Waypoint also works with adults dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief, confidence issues, and general stress. If you're not sure whether we're the right fit, ask when you inquire. If we can't help, we'll point you toward providers who can.

What insurances are you in network with?

Waypoint is in network with Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield (excluding Blue Value and Blue Home plans), Cigna/Evernorth, Medcost, and United/Optum. Coverage varies by provider so verify your specific benefits before your first appointment. Notify us of any insurance or payment changes at billing@waypointcounselingnc.com.

What should I know before my first appointment?

Make sure your credit card and insurance information are up to date in the client portal before your session. If you're more than 10 minutes late your provider may need to reschedule. Our offices use a door code for entry, which is included in your appointment reminder.

Can I see a therapist and a nurse practitioner on the same day?

We recommend against scheduling both on the same day. Insurance typically does not cover two same-day services from the same practice, which means you may be billed out of pocket for one of the appointments.
